Sedation Dentistry
Innovative, one-on-one care.
When you come in for your initial appointment, an endodontist will review your referral form (if you were referred by your general dentist) and your health history. We will then conduct an examination and take X-rays, if needed. Next, your treatment options will be explained in simple, easy-to-understand language. At Molina Endodontics, we offer today’s most innovative endodontic procedures to help preserve teeth that have an infected or inflamed pulp. Causes of infection or inflammation include deep cavities, repeated dental procedures on the tooth or a crack or chip in the tooth. If left untreated, this can cause pain or lead to a tooth abscess.
Root Canal Therapy
The Molina Endodontics team has performed tens of thousands of successful root canals, so you know you’re in the best of hands. With this procedure, we gently remove the infected or inflamed pulp and then carefully shape and sterilize the inside of the canal. We use a state-of-the-art electronic apex locator to aid in determining the precise location of the root end; it also minimizes the number of X-rays required during treatment. The canal is then filled and sealed with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. We use the Obtura “Touch N’ Heat” system, which offers the ultimate in patient safety and efficiency. For your comfort, we use virtually silent handpieces that offer minimum vibration. In addition, our ultrasonic equipment features diamond-coated tips, the small size of which preserves the tooth’s structure and provides more precise treatment.
At Molina Endodontics, we can perform most root canals in a single visit; the more difficult cases might require a second appointment. Once your root canal therapy has been completed, we will send a written report to your referring dentist. You should not chew or bite on the treated tooth until your dentist provides you with a permanent restoration.
Root Canal Retreatment
Although extremely rare, a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy could become painful or diseased months or even years later. For these cases, we perform root canal retreatment.
Apicoectomy
This procedure is performed when a tooth does not respond to root canal therapy or retreatment. We first make a tiny incision in the gum tissue to expose the bone and surrounding inflamed tissue. We then remove the root end, sterilize the area and seal it to prevent reinfection.
Apexification
This is the treatment of an immature tooth to produce more favorable conditions for root canal therapy. With it, we remove the unhealthy pulp and place a mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) paste into the root, which helps a calcified barrier form near the root tip.
Diagnosis of oral & facial pain
Few parts of your body play as many roles in everyday life as your mouth, teeth, jaws, facial muscles and other related structures. And if you’re suffering from oral or facial discomfort, you know how it can disrupt nearly every aspect of your life. Everything from eating and talking to smiling, laughing and more. Fortunately, we can accurately diagnose the cause of your facial pain and recommend the most appropriate treatment method to relieve it. Following are symptoms you shouldn’t ignore:
- Chronic pain in your head, neck or ear, which may be due to pulp-damaged teeth.
- Lingering pain after eating hot or cold food, a sign that you may have a deeply decayed tooth.
- Constant pain and pressure, swelling or increased sensitivity, indicators of an abscessed tooth.
Solutions for fearful patients
For patients who are anxious or nervous, Molina Endodontics offers both pill sedation dentistry and nitrous oxide. A board-certified dental anesthesiologist can also come to the office for patients who want conscious sedation. You’ll also be happy to know that we use extra-gentle numbing techniques.
Advanced sterilization procedures
For maximum patient safety, Molina Endodontics uses sterilization procedures that meet the stringent guidelines set forth by OSHA.
